** I chose to do yardage for the assorted fabric above; for my queen quilt I picked 12 fabrics and
cut ? yard of each. I have leftover fabric but that gave me enough variety for my 2-½” strips
and my 1-½” strips. See tips below on what I found worked the best.
Tips when choosing fabric:
? Choose a focus fabric that you really love for the wide border because that is what you
will see on the majority of your quilt.
? Your wide border should be a large scale print with the majority of the colors that you
hope to incorporate in your quilt.
? If you choose yardage instead of a jelly roll, try to pick smaller scale prints in 4 different
colors and choose 3 prints per color. For example if you choose pink, yellow, orange &
green as your main 4 colors, choose 3 different prints like a dot, gingham and floral in
each color. Variety will help when you put your Criss Cross blocks together.
? Do not use low volume prints for the 2-½” or 1-½ strips… you want the pattern to stand
out against the white background. So make sure your jellyroll has 22 or 38 strips that are
not low volume prints.
? When choosing your narrow border make sure it has a high contrast against your wide
border. If you’re struggling making a decision, complimentary colors work great together
(red/green, blue/orange, yellow/purple).
Do not cut or press your fabric before class, we will do that on day one.
